1 August, 2017 ~ This date marks what we consider to be the official start date of our full-time RV travels. Technically, we had been living full-time in our Outback travel trailer for a few weeks already as we cleared out of the apartment in Carlisle, PA and Scott retired from the Army. To the best of our recollection, we had been parked in Pine Grove Furnace State Park in Pennsylvania. We have stayed at many Pennsylvania State Park campgrounds and enjoyed them all. The picture below was taken on the evening of July 31, 2017 as Scott was planning our first day’s travel to West Point, NY.
Our goal was to reach Maine. We had made reservations for the first 2 weeks or so of the trip far in advance based upon Scott’s mom traveling with us. Well, that didn’t happen but we kept our reservations even though we knew we would be moving along faster than we prefer. Our pace would slow down after the first two weeks.

The drive that day was easy and we got parked up Round Pond Campground on West Point with time enough for a short drive around town. We went across the Bear Mountain Bridge which spans the Hudson River. The Bear Mountain Bridge is a suspension bridge that, for 19 months starting in 1924, was the longest suspension bridge in the world.
The Hudson River Valley was as beautiful as I had imagined it to be.
After the drive, we stretched our legs with a walk around the campground. We finished off the evening with carryout pizza by the campfire.
The next day started off with another milestone, albeit a much less important one than our official First Day Of Full-Time RV Travel. I noticed when I got in my 2005 Toyota Solara that morning that my odometer was at 99,999 miles. I would witness the turnover to 100,000! And you can too…
I am writing this post almost 3 years after we started full-timing. My soul is full of joy with the memories of the places we have been, the things we have seen and the people we have met. Three years in …would I do it all again? Absolutely! This blog is giving me a chance to relive and organize some of those great memories. Thanks for reading it!
